Triple Olympic champion and world 1,500m record holder Faith Kipyegon has unveiled plans to put up a maternity hospital in her hometown, a project she says is deeply personal and long overdue.
The facility, to be known as the “Dare to Dream Maternity Ward,” was launched with a ground-breaking ceremony that marked a turning point for the decorated athlete beyond the track. Kipyegon described the initiative as a milestone inspired by her lived experiences as a mother and as a member of the Keringet community.
She spoke candidly about the realities faced by expectant mothers in the area, noting that many women endure long, risky journeys in search of medical care during childbirth. According to Kipyegon, inadequate facilities and delayed access to care have often led to tragic outcomes that could otherwise be prevented.
“For years, I have watched women leave home full of hope, carrying life and dreams, only for some to return with loss because the care they needed was too far, unavailable, or insufficient,” she said. “This is not about mistakes made by mothers it is about systems that have failed them.”
The new maternity ward aims to ease that burden by bringing quality maternal healthcare closer to the community, offering safe, dignified, and timely services to expectant mothers who currently have limited options.
The project will be fully funded by Kipyegon’s longtime shoe sponsor, Nike, as part of a legacy initiative tied to her historic Breaking 4 attempt in June 2025, where she set out to become the first woman to run a mile in under four minutes.
Kipyegon says the facility represents her commitment to ensuring that her success translates into lasting impact, not just medals, but lives saved and futures protected.
