Detectives are pursuing a murder suspect linked to the killing of a digital taxi driver in Nairobi, following a violent confrontation that turned fatal in the Kitusuru area over the weekend.
The victim, Kenneth Kimani Gachoka, had picked up a client from a Westlands petrol station and driven him to Chrisco Christian Church. According to investigators, the ride took a deadly turn when a disagreement broke out on arrival. The passenger is alleged to have stabbed Gachoka in the neck during the scuffle.
Despite the severe injury, Gachoka managed to flee the scene and alert fellow drivers, who rushed him to hospital. He was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. Before losing consciousness, he is said to have narrated the ordeal to his colleagues, identifying the passenger as his attacker.
DCI officers have since recovered the vehicle and launched a thorough investigation. CCTV clips from the petrol station where the suspect boarded the taxi are being analysed to aid in his identification. Police are urging members of the public with any relevant information to come forward as the manhunt intensifies.
The killing adds to growing concerns about rising cases of deadly attacks on riders and drivers. Just a week earlier, 30-year-old boda boda rider and father of three, Antony Otieno, was found murdered inside an apartment in South B. His body was discovered under a bed, bound at the head and legs, and gagged a crime detectives believe may have been linked to a botched phone delivery.
