Manchester United have moved swiftly to reset after parting ways with head coach Ruben Amorim, ending his 14-month spell at Old Trafford and opening the door to yet another managerial transition at the club.
With the dismissal confirmed on Monday, responsibility has temporarily fallen to under-18s coach Darren Fletcher, who will oversee first-team affairs as the club weighs its next move. United are understood to be leaning toward appointing an interim manager to steady the ship for the remainder of the season while a long-term solution is explored.
The decision has reignited debate over who could take up one of football’s most demanding jobs, with the club now hunting for its seventh permanent manager since Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down in 2013.
Among the names drawing attention is Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner. The 51-year-old Austrian enhanced his reputation last season by leading Palace to their first major silverware with an FA Cup triumph. With his contract at Selhurst Park due to expire at the end of the campaign, Glasner’s future remains open to speculation.
Tactically, Glasner has favoured a system built around a back three and attacking wing-backs, a setup similar to the one Amorim often deployed at United. However, he has previously indicated that his preferred approach is a more traditional 4-4-2, suggesting flexibility in his philosophy.
As United weigh their options, the focus now shifts to whether the club opts for short-term stability or makes an early gamble on a long-term rebuild under new leadership.
