Chesamis Boys High School are the new Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) national volleyball champions after defeating Chepsaita 3-1 in an entertaining final played at the M-Pesa Academy in Thika on Thursday.

The Western Region side secured their first-ever national volleyball crown, taking full advantage of the absence of former champions Malava Boys, who were disqualified from the competition. Guided by head coach Isaac Muresha, Chesamis delivered a composed performance to lift the coveted title.

The opening set was closely contested, with Chesamis taking the first point through a powerful spike before Chepsaita responded immediately to level matters. However, a series of unforced service errors by Chepsaita handed Chesamis the initiative, allowing them to stretch their lead to 21-19 and force their opponents into a timeout.

Despite the break, Chesamis maintained their composure and edged out Chepsaita 25-23 to claim the opening set.

Chepsaita responded strongly in the second set, displaying a more aggressive attacking approach to wrestle control of the match. Although Chesamis made a bright start after capitalising on a misjudged spike from their opponents, Chepsaita quickly recovered, producing five successive spikes to overturn the deficit and establish a 5-1 advantage.

The early pressure forced Chesamis head coach Isaac Muresha to call a timeout as he sought to reorganise his team and halt Chepsaita’s momentum.
