The Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) has introduced a new vetting process for politicians seeking to leave other political parties, including the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), and join the party ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu confirmed the formation of a seven-member committee tasked with assessing prospective defectors and determining whether they are genuinely committed to DCP’s political agenda.

Nyutu, who is part of the vetting panel, said politicians interested in joining the party will first be required to publicly declare their intentions before appearing before the committee.

He said the requirement is intended to ensure that potential defectors are open about their political plans rather than holding private discussions with party officials before seeking admission.

“One thing that we will be advising anyone who appears before us is that they must make their intentions public. That they cannot simply come and maybe talk to some of us, talk to the party leader, you know, maybe in private. One of the requirements is that you must go public about your intention,” Nyutu said.

According to the senator, prospective members will be expected to make their decision to leave their current parties public before the formal vetting process begins.

The committee will then assess the public reaction to the intended defections before proceeding with the final evaluation of the politicians seeking to join DCP.

Nyutu said the process is aimed at determining the commitment and intentions of politicians looking to associate with the party as political realignments gather pace ahead of the 2027 polls.
