Former Principal Secretary Irungu Nyakera has shifted his political ambitions from the Nairobi gubernatorial race to the Makadara parliamentary seat, marking a new direction in his 2027 political plans.
Nyakera, a close ally of former Deputy President and DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua, announced the decision on August 18 after consultations with his political advisers and residents of Makadara.
He said the decision was largely influenced by calls from residents of the constituency who want him to represent them in Parliament in the 2027 General Election.
“After consultations with my political mentors, and more importantly, after listening to the people of Makadara who have asked me to come home and offer myself as their Member of Parliament, I have made the decision to shift my political focus from the Nairobi gubernatorial race to Makadara Constituency,” Nyakera said.
According to Nyakera, residents had personally urged him to abandon his gubernatorial ambitions and instead seek the Makadara parliamentary seat, an appeal he said played a major role in his decision.
The move takes Nyakera out of the increasingly competitive Nairobi governor contest, which he described as a demanding and costly political race.
Before making the announcement, Nyakera travelled to Wamunyoro with a delegation from Makadara, where they met Gachagua at his rural home.
The meeting came as Nyakera consulted his political mentors on his next political move, culminating in his decision to redirect his 2027 ambitions towards representing Makadara in Parliament.
