Zambia’s national football team, Chipolopolo, is gearing up for the 8th edition of the TotalEnergies CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024 with head coach Avram Grant naming a 32-man provisional squad ahead of the regional showdown.
The tournament, set to run from August 2 to 30, will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. Grant has opted for a balanced blend of experienced players and emerging talent, relying heavily on Zambia’s thriving domestic league to build a squad capable of navigating a tough Group A.
Zambia finds itself in one of the most competitive groups in the tournament, featuring defending champions Morocco, continental giants DR Congo, Angola, and co-hosts Kenya.
Chipolopolo kicks off their campaign against DR Congo on August 7, followed by a critical encounter with Angola on August 10. A high-stakes clash with title-holders Morocco awaits on August 14, before wrapping up the group stage with a showdown against Kenya.
This marks Zambia’s fifth appearance at CHAN, having previously featured in 2009, 2016, 2018, and 2020. Their best performance came in the inaugural edition in 2009, where they secured third place.
With final preparations set to take place in East Africa, the team will look to fine-tune tactics and chemistry ahead of the tournament opener.
All eyes will be on Grant’s men as they aim to make a deep run and rekindle the glory days of Zambian football on the continental stage.
