Clinical officers in Nairobi are set to resume duty within the next 24 hours following a breakthrough agreement between the Kenya Union of Clinical Officers (KUCO) and the Nairobi City County Government.

The resolution comes after 85 days of industrial action that had disrupted healthcare services across the city. The return to work formula, signed on Monday, marks the end of a standoff that centered on delayed postings and career progression concerns.

Among the key issues addressed in the agreement is the immediate deployment of five clinical officers who had previously received appointment letters but had not been posted. The deal also includes the implementation of the Career Progression Guidelines approved in 2024.

In a statement, KUCO confirmed that notable progress had been made on the contentious matters and expressed optimism about full implementation.

The Nairobi City County Government, on its part, committed to honoring the agreement in full and within the agreed timelines, promising that clinical officers will return to work with confidence that their grievances are being resolved.

The return of clinical officers is expected to ease pressure on public health facilities and restore normalcy in service delivery across the capital.
