Edward Carey Kwach, a well-known figure in Kenyan radio broadcasting, has died.

The announcement was made on Tuesday, April 29, by family spokesperson Michael Okwiri, who confirmed that Kwach passed away on the night of April 28, 2025. He was undergoing medical treatment for meningitis at the time of his death.

In a formal statement, the family said: “It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our cherished son and brother, Carey.” The statement did not provide further medical details but requested privacy as the family begins funeral preparations.

Kwach had been hospitalized in Nairobi, where he had been receiving care in recent days. During his admission, his family had issued a public appeal for blood donations, a move that drew widespread attention and concern from fans and colleagues alike.

Edward Kwach had a career in radio spanning decades. His name and voice became associated with multiple major radio stations in Kenya. At the time of his passing, he was a presenter at Spice FM, where he had built a strong following through his morning shows.

Following the announcement of his death, tributes began to emerge on social media from colleagues and members of the media industry. However, the family has asked that the public allow them time to mourn privately and said official details regarding memorial arrangements and burial plans will be communicated in due course.

As of now, no official cause of death beyond the meningitis diagnosis has been released, and no postmortem results have been made public.

Kwach’s death marks a significant moment in Kenyan broadcasting, but his family and employer have requested that the public and press await further statements before issuing tributes or commentary.
