A rare public disagreement has emerged within President William Ruto’s Cabinet after Lands Cabinet Secretary Alice Wahome openly challenged Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale over controversial remarks he allegedly made about the Kikuyu community.
In a statement shared on X, Wahome urged Duale to retract the comments and offer an unconditional apology, saying his refusal to do so had only worsened the situation.
She dismissed Duale’s reported defence that others had committed similar or worse mistakes, arguing that such reasoning could not justify his actions.
“Two wrongs don’t make a right and only a fool who does not change his or her mind,” Wahome wrote.
The Lands CS said the remarks had reflected poorly on her Cabinet colleague and insisted that the appropriate course of action was for him to withdraw the statements and apologize sincerely to the Kikuyu community.
Wahome’s remarks make her the first serving Cabinet Secretary to publicly criticize Duale over the allegations of hate speech.
Her intervention comes as pressure continues to mount on the Health CS from political leaders and members of the public, who have urged him to retract the remarks, warning that such statements could heighten ethnic tensions if left unaddressed.
