The High Court has taken a firm stance against former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and his wife, Susan Wangari, ordering them to personally attend court when the verdict in a Ksh1.9 billion asset forfeiture case is finally read.
The directive was issued by Justice Nixon Sifuna after the couple skipped court on two earlier occasions when the judgment was scheduled. The judge expressed frustration over their continued absence, saying the court would no longer accommodate delays linked to non-attendance.
Justice Sifuna made it clear that the case has reached its conclusion stage and that the ruling will be delivered on the next scheduled date, with or without the presence of the respondents.
The case, initiated by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), targets several properties and financial assets allegedly acquired unlawfully during Waititu’s tenure as a public official. The commission argues that the wealth in question cannot be justified through legitimate income and should therefore be surrendered to the state.
