Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has called on political parties backing the one-term movement to unite under what he proposed as the “Hyena Coalition” ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Speaking at his Mathira home in Nyeri while hosting a delegation from Nakuru County, Gachagua said the proposed coalition would bring together leaders and supporters opposed to President William Ruto’s re-election bid.
The former Deputy President said he adopted the name from recent remarks allegedly made by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale about the Kikuyu community.
“I would urge all of those one-term supporters from Mt. Kenya to form a coalition for one-term parties. Na kwa sababu tumetukanwa na Duale, nataka tukubali hiyo jina. Tunataka tuiite the Hyena Coalition,” Gachagua said.
He further called on former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi to help mobilise leaders from the Mt. Kenya region into the proposed alliance.
“My brother JB (Justin Muturi), convene all of us in Mt. Kenya, we create the Hyena Coalition ya mafisi wote, ya kukula Kasongo, na kumtafuna, na kummeza,” he added.
Gachagua also urged supporters of the one-term movement in the Mt. Kenya region to remain united, cautioning against internal divisions that could weaken their political agenda.
He argued that conflicts among leaders pursuing the same objective would only benefit President Ruto and distract the movement from its main goal.
“Fighting people within the one-term movement is not good energy. It is not going to help us. Focus on William Ruto and the people around him. Ignore other noises, do not get distracted,” he said.
He further urged his supporters not to be drawn into internal disputes, saying they should remain focused and strategic despite any political provocation.
“We will not fight our brothers and sisters even if we are provoked and that is what Ruto would want. He can use some of us to start internal wars so that we lose focus on him. We must be very intelligent and strategic,” Gachagua stated.
The remarks are the latest in Gachagua’s sustained campaign against President Ruto, as he continues to rally support for a one-term presidency ahead of the 2027 General Election.
