The gospel music industry is in mourning following the death of celebrated artist Betty Bayo, who passed away on Monday afternoon while receiving treatment for leukemia at the Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH).

According to her family, the “Eleventh Hour” hitmaker had been admitted to KNH last Friday after being transferred from AAR Hospital along Kiambu Road. She succumbed to the illness at around 1 p.m., surrounded by close relatives. Her body has since been moved to the Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital Mortuary.

Outside the facility, friends, fans, and fellow gospel artists gathered to pay their respects. The atmosphere was heavy with emotion as many struggled to come to terms with the passing of a woman whose voice had inspired countless believers.

Bayo rose to national fame with her breakout song “Eleventh Hour,” a moving anthem about hope, faith, and divine timing. The track became a staple in churches and gospel events across Kenya, establishing her as one of the most influential figures in the genre.

In messages shared online, industry peers described Bayo as a beacon of humility and faith and a rare talent whose songs ministered deeply to the soul. Others highlighted her generosity and commitment to uplifting others through her art.

“Betty’s music wasn’t just about rhythm it was about restoration,” read one tribute. “Her voice carried prayer, healing, and strength.”

Beyond music, Bayo was also known for her creativity in content creation, fashion, and ministry work. She had previously been married to Pastor Kanyari, with whom she shares children, though the two later went their separate ways.

In her final days, Bayo had been looking forward to celebrating her upcoming birthday with her son. In a heartfelt video shared before her passing, she spoke of planning a quiet getaway for the two of them, saying:
“I’m here to book a holiday destination for my upcoming birthday next month. Funny enough, we share the same birth date with my son. This time, I just want to spend it with him.”

Her sudden death has left a void in Kenya’s gospel scene a silence where once her music offered comfort and hope.

Betty Bayo’s legacy lives on through the songs that carried messages of faith, endurance, and love melodies that will continue to echo in hearts and sanctuaries for years to come.
