Taita Taveta County Assembly has lost one of its nominated members following the death of Margaret Kawuki, who represented the Jubilee Party after her nomination in the 2022 General Election.
Kawuki, who was serving her first term in the county assembly, reportedly died in Mombasa County while receiving treatment. Details surrounding the circumstances of her death remain unclear.
Jubilee Party Secretary General Moitalel Ole Kenta confirmed her death on Thursday, October 29, paying tribute to her as a committed public servant who championed democracy, equality and women’s rights.
Before joining the county assembly, Kawuki served in other public institutions, including the Taita Taveta County Education Fund board and the county’s tourism board.
Her death has prompted tributes from Kenyans, with her contribution to public service and her work in various institutions forming part of her legacy.
