Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has voiced strong concerns over what he describes as a politically motivated move to discredit Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya. Speaking during a public address in Machakos on Sunday, May 18, Kalonzo claimed that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is planning to conduct a search on the governor’s properties and detain him briefly, only to release him after causing public humiliation.

According to Kalonzo, the operation is expected to take place on Monday, May 19. He alleges that a search warrant has already been secured, and that the move is part of a broader strategy to undermine the governor’s credibility.

“This is not about justice—it’s a calculated attempt to smear Governor Natembeya’s name,” Kalonzo remarked. “When a leader chooses not to align with certain powerful interests, they become a target. We’ve seen this pattern before, and it’s troubling.”

He further warned against the misuse of independent institutions like the EACC for political ends. “Let the commission remain impartial and resist being used to settle political scores,” he urged.

Kalonzo also pointed to Democratic Action Party–Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa, saying he is committed to standing by the governor and will oppose any attempts to stage what he termed an unnecessary and symbolic arrest.

Governor Natembeya has been under increasing political pressure in recent months. Among his critics is Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei, who has gone as far as pushing for his impeachment. The senator has accused Natembeya of engaging in divisive, ethnically-driven politics, and questioned his leadership credentials.

The unfolding political tensions suggest that the coming days could be critical for both the governor and the wider Trans Nzoia leadership landscape.
