Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were was gunned down Wednesday night in Nairobi.
The MP was attacked at around 7:30 p.m. near the City Mortuary roundabout by two men on a motorbike. One assailant dismounted and fired at close range, hitting Were multiple times. His driver was unharmed, a sign that the attackers were only after the MP.
Police officers stationed nearby witnessed the shooting but were unable to stop it. Were was rushed to Nairobi Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The motive behind the killing is still unclear, but the precision of the hit suggests careful planning. Investigations are underway.
