A group of Kiambu County MCAs has thrown its weight behind Governor Kimani Wamatangi, dismissing corruption claims against him as a smear campaign driven by politics.

The governor is under scrutiny after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) linked him to a Sh1.27 billion tender scandal allegedly awarded through family proxies during his tenure as Kiambu senator in 2017. The anti-graft body recently forwarded files recommending the prosecution of three sitting governors, including Wamatangi.

Speaking at a Sunday service in PCEA Komothai, Githunguri, several ward representatives defended the county boss, saying the allegations were designed to weaken his leadership. They accused the EACC of being used to fight political battles rather than pursue justice.

Deputy Speaker John Ndichu, together with Limuru Central MCA Nduta Wamuongi, voiced support for the governor, urging his rivals to stop premature campaigns and instead allow his administration to fulfill its promises.

Wamatangi, addressing the congregation in Kikuyu, linked the growing pressure around him to his refusal to engage in corruption. He pointed to recent attempts by unnamed individuals to irregularly grab public property, including a 100-acre parcel of land surrendered by Delmonte in Thika, as the root of the political hostility he now faces.
