The elite Presidential Guard Company, better known as G Company, has a new Commandant following a mini-reshuffle in the General Service Unit (GSU) leadership ranks.

The changes, approved by the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Kenya Police Service, were detailed in an internal memo dated October 9, 2025, and signed by William Samoei, the Commanding Officer of the National Police College (NPC) Embakasi B and Magadi Field Campus.

According to the communication, Commissioner of Police (CP) Charles Kases Losur has been appointed the new Commanding Officer of the Presidential Guard Company. Losur previously served as Staff Officer in charge of operations in the Nairobi Region. He replaces CP Ernest Cheruiyot, who has been reassigned to GSU Headquarters as Staff Officer for Operations.

The reshuffle also affected several other senior officers. Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Goddhard Kamau, who was commanding the elite Recce Company, has been promoted to Deputy Commandant of the GSU. His position at the Recce Company will now be filled by CP William Kiptoo Sawe, formerly the Staff Officer for Operations at GSU Headquarters.

Additionally, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Charles Chesir Kibowen has been transferred from GSU Headquarters to head the Basic Training Wing at the National Police College, Embakasi B Campus.

The changes, which took effect through a signal issued on October 8, 2025, are part of a broader effort to reinforce leadership structures within GSU’s specialised units including the Recce Company and the Presidential Guard which play crucial roles in counter-terror operations and the protection of the Presidency.

Sources within the service described the reshuffle as a strategic move aimed at enhancing efficiency, discipline, and readiness within these high-security formations.

Cheruiyot, who has been at the helm of the Presidential Guard Company since July 2023, previously served in the Recce Company at Ruiru, where he was in charge of operations. He succeeded George Nderitu, who was redeployed to GSU Headquarters as General Staffing Officer during an earlier shake-up overseen by then–Deputy Inspector General Douglas Kanja.

The Presidential Guard Company is drawn from the GSU and is tasked with protecting State House, state lodges, and the private residences of the President. The Presidential Escort Unit, a separate team, complements their work by providing round-the-clock security and coordination for the President’s movements and those of his family.
