A team of government and private pathologists has confirmed that Kariobangi MCA Joel Munuve died from a natural medical condition, putting to rest any suspicion of foul play.
The doctors carried out a joint post-mortem at Lee Funeral Home and found that Munuve suffered from a blood clot that formed in his left leg and travelled to his lungs, blocking a key blood vessel. This condition, known as pulmonary thromboembolism, was identified as the direct cause of death.
“As a result of my examination, I formed the opinion that the cause of death was Pulmonary Thromboembolism due to Left Popliteal Vein Deep Vein Thrombosis,” one of the pathologists stated in the official report.
They explained that several clots had formed behind the knee and that some may have been there for quite some time. One large clot was found lodged in the main artery of the lungs, showing signs that it had been developing gradually.
The post-mortem also noted a lipoma, a harmless fatty lump in Munuve’s neck and a scar in his chest linked to an old lung problem. None of these findings were related to his cause of death.
A sample was taken for further testing, but doctors say the major cause of death has already been established.
