The Government has intensified the crackdown on cattle rustlers, shifting focus to buyers involved in the illegal business.
Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen expressed concerns that some markets within Kerio Valley have provided an avenue for the sale of the stolen livestock.
“There are markets here that sell livestock to buyers to take them to Nairobi and beyond ,” said the CS when he spoke to journalists after a security briefing in Maralal.
While in Samburu County for a leaders’ consultative meeting on security, the CS warned that no one found culpable will be spared.
“I have told the intelligence and security teams to apprehend the buyers, catalysing cattle rustling in this region,” noted Mr Murkomen.
He noted that the region has borne the brunt of banditry and cattle rustling.
