Leaders within Nairobi’s Orange Democratic Movement have backed Winnie Odinga to represent Kibra at the party’s delegate level, a decision that could position her for a role in the National Executive Council (NEC).
The endorsement was reached during a delegates’ meeting in Nairobi chaired by county party leader George Aladwa, where members agreed to front a unified candidate ahead of the party’s upcoming National Delegates Convention.
Party officials indicated that the move is part of a broader plan to align Nairobi’s representation within the party’s top decision-making structures. Aladwa noted that delegates had held internal consultations for weeks before settling on Winnie Odinga as their preferred choice.
He also pointed out that the position had previously been held by Raila Odinga, and that the region needed to agree on a successor as the party prepares for key internal meetings later this month.
If ratified, the endorsement is expected to strengthen Winnie Odinga’s influence within ODM’s leadership ranks, particularly at the national level.
