Nationwide KPSEA and First-Ever KJSEA Exams Kick Off as Over 2.4 Million Learners Sit Assessments

The 2025 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the first-ever Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA) officially kicked off across the country on Monday morning.

More than 1.29 million Grade 6 learners are sitting the KPSEA exams, marking their transition to Junior Secondary School, while 1.13 million Grade 9 candidates the pioneer class under the Competency-Based Education (CBE) system are taking the KJSEA exams ahead of their move to senior school.

At 6:45 a.m., the Principal Secretary for Basic Education, Prof. Julius Bitok, led the official opening of an examination container at Olympic Primary School in Kibra to mark the start of the assessments.

“As a ministry, we have ensured everything is in place for the smooth administration of all national exams. We expect the highest level of professionalism in handling the KPSEA, KJSEA, and KCSE,” said Prof. Bitok.

Across the country, government officials were also present to oversee the distribution and supervision of examination materials. The two assessments, which run until October 29, are taking place alongside the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exams, currently in their second week.

Learners with special needs are sitting the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment (KILEA).

Meanwhile, the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) has reiterated its strict guidelines to ensure integrity and efficiency during the 2025 exams. In a statement, KNEC reminded all examination officials to adhere to established procedures and uphold the credibility of the national assessment process.
