More than 3.6 million learners across Kenya have begun the 2026 Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and Kenya Junior School Education Assessment (KJSEA), as the nationwide exercise gets underway.

A total of 3,634,846 candidates have registered for this year’s assessments, with the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) and education officials overseeing the administration of examination materials and the assessment process.

Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba witnessed the opening of a container holding examination papers at the Makindu Deputy County Commissioner’s Office, marking a key step in the distribution of materials to assessment centres across the country.

Ogamba said the government had put measures in place to facilitate a smooth exercise and ensure all candidates have a fair opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills.

The CS encouraged learners to remain confident and disciplined throughout the assessments, while urging parents and guardians to offer encouragement and emotional support during the examination period.

He emphasised that the role of parents and guardians extends beyond preparation, noting that their reassurance can help learners navigate the assessment period.

The Ministry of Education has also established measures to address potential disruptions arising from the rainy season. These include challenges associated with heavy rainfall, flooding, insecurity and difficult terrain that could affect the delivery of examination materials or access to assessment centres.

Authorities are expected to coordinate efforts to ensure the assessments proceed smoothly across the country despite these potential challenges.
