The National Police Service has dismissed claims that Irungu Kang’ata‘s driver was shot during the Linda Mwananchi rally held in Nyahururu, clarifying that the injuries reported were caused by stone-throwing during clashes at the event.
In a statement issued after the rally, police said the gathering turned chaotic when rival groups confronted each other, forcing the event to end prematurely. Preliminary investigations indicate that some individuals attempted to disrupt the meeting by pelting stones at attendees.
According to the police, several people sustained minor injuries, including Joseph Gitau, identified as Governor Kang’ata’s driver, who suffered a chest injury. Authorities said he received medical treatment and was later discharged.
The service emphasized that there was no shooting during the incident, dismissing reports circulating on social media and other platforms.
Police further confirmed that officers responded swiftly to restore order and arrested six suspects, who remain in custody awaiting arraignment as investigations into the violence continue.
