A major integrity crisis has erupted within the Political Parties Liaison Committee (PPLC) after its Chairperson, Evans James Misati, was accused of demanding a Ksh 4 million bribe during the selection of IEBC Commissioners earlier this year.

In a formal complaint addressed to the Registrar of Political Parties and the PPLC Plenary, Ahmed Takoy, a Kenyan professional based in South Sudan, alleges that Misati approached him during the interviews where Misati served as a panelist representing political parties and offered to secure his appointment in exchange for money.

Takoy, who has worked with several international organizations across Europe, Asia, and Africa, claims Misati assured him that he had performed exceptionally well and met all requirements for the role, but later went silent and blocked his number after he declined to make the payment.

The letter, officially received by the Registrar’s office on November 5, calls for urgent disciplinary action and urges that Misati be barred from contesting for re-election as PPLC Chairperson.

Takoy has further stated his intention to report the matter to the DCI and EACC once he returns to Kenya later this year, describing the incident as “a stain on the integrity of the entire institution.” He has also requested to present evidence before the PPLC Plenary on November 6.

The allegations emerge at a sensitive moment for Kenya’s electoral institutions, already under public scrutiny ahead of the next general election. Analysts warn that if the claims are proven, they could expose deeper ethical issues within political party representation in national election processes.
