Thousands of government employees are set to benefit from a new remuneration review after President William Ruto approved an upward adjustment of salaries and allowances across the public service.

The announcement was made by Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku during the Public Service Week celebrations held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on June 23.

According to Ruku, the review will cover both basic salaries and key employment benefits, resulting in an improved overall compensation package for civil servants beginning in July.

The adjustments are expected to affect employees serving in government ministries, state corporations, departments, agencies, and other public institutions nationwide.

Ruku explained that the review will include enhancements to gross pay as well as major allowances, including housing and commuter benefits, in line with the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of public sector workers.

The Cabinet Secretary noted that the move follows directives from President Ruto aimed at strengthening public service motivation and productivity through better remuneration.

During the same event, Ruku also instructed all government institutions to transition their payroll operations to the government’s Human Resource Information System (HRIS), a move intended to streamline personnel management and improve accountability in the public sector.

The planned salary review is expected to bring relief to many civil servants amid rising living costs and growing demands on household incomes.
