President William Ruto has praised environmental activist Truphena Muthoni, hosting her at State House on Monday in recognition of her commitment to climate action.
The meeting followed Muthoni’s completion of a gruelling 72-hour tree-hugging challenge in Nyeri County, an effort aimed at drawing attention to environmental protection and the climate crisis. The feat marked her second endurance challenge, having earlier completed a 48-hour tree-hugging attempt.
During the engagement, President Ruto described her action as a powerful and symbolic statement that amplifies the urgency of environmental conservation both locally and internationally. In acknowledgment of her dedication, the President appointed Muthoni as an ambassador of Kenya’s ambitious 15 billion tree-growing initiative.
Ruto further honoured her contributions by awarding her the Head of State Commendation (HSC) Medal, citing her courage, resilience and leadership in championing environmental stewardship.
The recognition places Muthoni among key advocates expected to play a visible role in mobilising public support for Kenya’s climate and conservation agenda.
