President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga are this morning presiding over a joint Parliamentary Group meeting that brings together legislators from Kenya Kwanza, ODM, Ford-Kenya, and the Pamoja African Alliance (PAA).

This is the first sitting since the two leaders unveiled their political cooperation agreement in March, and it is expected to assess progress on its implementation including compensation for victims of last year’s protests while outlining a common legislative agenda for the coming months.

The cooperation framework is anchored in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on March 7, 2025, and guided by recommendations from the 2023 National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report.

To oversee implementation, Ruto and Odinga appointed a five-member committee on August 6, chaired by former ODM-nominated Senator Agnes Zani. Other members include former nominated MP Fatuma Ibrahim, governance expert and lawyer Javas Bigambo, policy adviser Gabriel Oguda from the Office of the Minority Leader, and lawyer Kevin Kiarie.

A joint secretariat, co-led by executive secretaries from both UDA and ODM, was also set up to back the committee’s work.

The team’s mandate includes holding broad consultations with the public, civil society, religious groups, the private sector, and relevant government institutions to steer the cooperation process.
