George Were, a senior driver with the Siaya County Government, tragically lost his life on the evening of Monday, May 5, in a road accident that occurred near Delamere Centre as he carried out official duties.
Governor James Orengo, in a statement issued the following day, confirmed that Were was en route to Naivasha, transporting top officials, including the Chief Officer for Education and a representative from the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB), when the vehicle was involved in the crash. All passengers sustained injuries.
“It is a deeply sorrowful evening for Siaya County as we mourn the loss of one of our own, Senior Driver George Were, who was involved in a tragic road accident at Delamere Center while on official duty en route to Naivasha,” the Governor said.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to George’s family and pray that they find strength and comfort during this painful time,” he added, also wishing a full recovery to all the staff members injured in the incident.
The county is expected to support the affected families as they cope with the aftermath of the accident.
