Detectives in Nakuru and Kisii counties are probing two unrelated deaths reported during the New Year period, both stemming from violent confrontations.

In Elementaita, Gilgil Sub-county, police are holding a suspect after a domestic dispute turned fatal on Saturday night. The victim, 20-year-old Sylvanus Ole Lesasuyan, died at his family home after sustaining stab wounds. Investigators say tensions flared when the deceased’s elder brother arrived home late and attempted to slaughter a goat intended for New Year celebrations. A quarrel broke out as he tried to remove the animal from its enclosure, escalating into violence that left the younger sibling fatally injured. Officers arrested the suspect soon after, and a knife believed to be the murder weapon was recovered following leads from the arrest. The body was taken to the mortuary as investigations continue.

Meanwhile, in Nyankongo area of Kisii County, two bar attendants have been taken into custody over the death of a 25-year-old man after a fight at a local drinking joint. Police said the victim, identified as Job Momanyi, was injured during an altercation on New Year’s Day and admitted to hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. Authorities are still piecing together the circumstances that led to the confrontation.

Police in both cases say inquiries are ongoing as they seek to establish the full sequence of events and possible charges.
