A 26-year-old woman is facing drug trafficking charges after she was caught attempting to smuggle cocaine through Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

Wendy Mbeke Muli was intercepted on Friday just moments after boarding a flight headed out of the country. According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), her unusual behavior during routine airport screening raised red flags, prompting a closer inspection.

Authorities say further checks revealed that Muli had allegedly concealed narcotics inside her body.

“She was placed under medical observation after officers suspected she had hidden something internally,” read a statement from DCI posted on X.

While under watch, Muli reportedly asked to use the washroom, where she excreted two pellets. By Saturday, six more pellets were recovered all of them containing cocaine. The total weight of the drugs seized is approximately 626.65 grams.

Anti-narcotics officers stationed at JKIA are now finalizing preparations to formally charge her in court on Monday, June 16.

Investigations into the source and intended destination of the drugs are ongoing.
