A tragic accident in Mbita Town, Homa Bay County, on Wednesday, April 2, left five students from Mbita Boys High School injured when they were struck by a speeding car while heading home for the holidays.
The accident occurred near the Mbita International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), where the car reportedly lost control and collided with the students. Witnesses say the vehicle was moving at high speed, and the driver is suspected to have been under the influence of alcohol.

As the victims were rushed to Homabay County Level 5 Hospital, two students were reported to have sustained critical injuries, with fears that they may not survive. Social media footage from the scene showed the severely damaged vehicle, with cracked windows and deflated tyres, while residents worked to assist the injured students.
