Milimani Magistrate’s Court has officially cleared Mumias East MP Peter Salasya of hate speech allegations following his compliance with court directives. Magistrate Paul Mutai highlighted Salasya’s active involvement in peacebuilding initiatives, which reached over 1,000 people, including ongoing campaigns on social media, as a key factor in the decision.

The court noted that Salasya had committed to continuing these peace efforts, prompting the withdrawal of the charges. Previously, the case required Salasya to issue a public apology and participate in a social media campaign promoting unity before dismissal could be considered.

The Director of Public Prosecutions, represented by prosecutor Nora Achieng, confirmed that the withdrawal came after an out-of-court agreement between Salasya and the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC).

Salasya was originally charged on May 19, 2025, for allegedly making inflammatory social media remarks targeting members of a specific community.
