Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has urged residents of Mbeere to reject divisive political narratives and instead support leaders whose focus is on development and service delivery.
Speaking during the commissioning of a Sh38 million modern school complex at Katheru Primary School in Mbeere North, a project funded by the Safaricom Foundation, Ruku emphasized the importance of unity in driving social and economic progress within the region.
The Cabinet Secretary cautioned that political alignments based on clan interests could weaken community cohesion and slow down development efforts. He argued that meaningful progress can only be achieved when residents prioritize common goals over sectional affiliations.
Ruku noted that communities stand to benefit more from leaders who champion tangible development initiatives rather than those who seek support through identity-based politics. According to him, unity remains a critical ingredient in ensuring that government projects and investment opportunities translate into improved livelihoods for residents.
In remarks widely interpreted as criticism of former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti, Ruku accused certain political figures of steering the community in the wrong direction by promoting divisive agendas instead of addressing the needs of ordinary citizens.
He further challenged aspiring leaders to engage voters on the basis of their achievements, vision, and plans for development, rather than relying on ethnic or clan loyalties to gain political support.
The CS maintained that accountability, performance, and practical solutions should form the basis of leadership contests, saying residents deserve leaders capable of advancing the region’s growth and prosperity.
