Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has reassigned key county officials in a fresh administrative reshuffle that has seen Geoffrey Mosiria leave his position as Chief Officer for Public Participation, Citizen Engagement and Customer Service.
In changes communicated on Wednesday, Nairobi County Secretary and Head of Public Service Dr. Machel Waikenda appointed Zipporah Mwangi to serve as the acting chief officer in the department. Mwangi will, however, retain her current role as Chief Officer for City Culture, Arts and Tourism.
The reshuffle has also affected other departments, with Eng. Samwel Njogu taking over as acting Chief Officer for Mobility. Meanwhile, Godfrey Akumali, who heads Housing and Urban Renewal, has been assigned the Lands docket in an acting capacity.
According to a letter dated October 21, 2026, and signed by Dr. Waikenda, the changes were made in accordance with the County Governments Act, 2012, and with Governor Sakaja’s approval. The new appointments and reassignments took effect immediately.
The administrative changes come shortly after Mosiria announced his intention to contest the Nairobi gubernatorial seat in the 2027 General Election. His declaration places him among those expressing interest in succeeding Sakaja, under whose administration he previously served.
