The disappearance of lawyer Abshir Ahmedsadak Abdi has raised further concern after one of the men believed to have been with him during his reported abduction was also declared missing.

The family of Ayub Mohamud Maalim has reported his disappearance at Kilimani Police Station, appealing to security agencies to help establish his whereabouts.

According to his relatives, Ayub, a Mombasa resident, was last seen in the company of Abshir. The family says efforts to trace him have been unsuccessful since the beginning of November.

Abdi Hassan, a relative, said the family had spent days trying to locate Ayub before deciding to seek police intervention.

Ayub’s sister, Fatuma Maalim, expressed concern over the prolonged lack of communication, saying the family had been unable to reach him as his mobile phone remained switched off.

She described him as a son, brother, husband and father whose sudden disappearance had left the family deeply worried.

Ayub is suspected to be among two men captured in CCTV footage running away from armed individuals who were pursuing the lawyer’s vehicle before it lost control and plunged into a drainage channel.

Footage reportedly shows Abshir fleeing in the opposite direction before attempting to climb over a gate, where he was allegedly seized by his pursuers.

Meanwhile, Vocal Africa Executive Director Hussein Khalid has raised concerns that Ayub could also have been abducted alongside the lawyer, adding another dimension to the ongoing investigation into Abshir’s disappearance.
