Angel Gomes is set to begin a new chapter in his career after reaching an agreement to join French giants Olympique de Marseille, the club confirmed on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old midfielder will officially become a free agent at the end of the month when his contract with Lille expires. Gomes joined Lille in 2020 after departing Manchester United, the club where he came through the youth ranks and made 10 senior appearances.

During his four-year spell at Lille, Gomes featured in 134 matches and scored 10 goals, establishing himself as a consistent presence in Ligue 1. His last appearance for the England national team came in November 2024, adding to a total of four senior caps.

Marseille, 1993 UEFA Champions League winners, announced the news via social media, stating they had “reached an agreement in principle with Angel Gomes regarding the arrival of the English international midfielder at the club.” Further details of the deal were not disclosed.

Gomes’ move signals a fresh opportunity to reinvigorate his career at one of France’s most storied clubs, as Marseille looks to strengthen its midfield ahead of the new season.
