An autopsy conducted by Government Pathologist Dr. Johansen Oduor has confirmed that Kasipul Member of Parliament, Charles Ong’ondo Were, died from excessive bleeding after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds.
The MP was fatally shot on Wednesday, April 30, along Ngong Road in what authorities believe was a targeted attack. Dr. Oduor reported that Were suffered five gunshot wounds, with several bullets striking vital organs, leading to the collapse of essential bodily functions and extensive internal bleeding, which ultimately caused his death.
According to preliminary investigations, the assailant who had reportedly been following the MP on a motorcycle dismounted and opened fire, shooting at least five times. The bullets struck the lawmaker in the chest and arms.
The autopsy findings suggest that the injuries to Were’s hands may indicate an attempt to defend himself during the attack. “Some of the wounds on his upper limbs are consistent with defensive injuries,” Dr. Oduor noted, highlighting the violent nature of the confrontation.
The investigation into the killing is ongoing as authorities pursue leads on the identity and motive of the gunman.
