The government has concluded arrangements to repatriate the remains of Corporal Kennedy Mutuku, the Kenyan police officer who died in a road accident while serving in Haiti late last month.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, through a statement relayed by police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, confirmed that Mutuku’s body will land at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on Friday, September 26, 2025. “The body of Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nzuve is scheduled to arrive in Nairobi on September 26, 2025,” the statement noted.
Details of the burial program were not immediately disclosed.
Mutuku had been deployed as part of Kenya’s contingent under the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission. His death occurred on August 31 along the Kenscoff–Pétion-Ville road, in the Pèlerin 9 area, during a recovery operation involving two MaxxPro armored vehicles.
According to MSS spokesperson Jack Ombaka, tragedy struck when one MaxxPro being towed developed mechanical failure, causing both vehicles to crash. Two civilians were killed in the accident, while eight MSS officers sustained injuries three of them critically.
The injured officers were first admitted at Aspen Level 2 Hospital within the LSA 2 facility before some were flown to the Dominican Republic for advanced treatment. Authorities have not provided an update on their current condition.
