Bomet Governor Hillary Barchok and former Bungoma Governor Wycliffe Wangamati have been arraigned before the Milimani Anti-Corruption Court to answer graft-related charges.
The two spent last night in police custody following their arrests, after the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) directed them to present themselves for arraignment.
Governor Barchok faces accusations of conflict of interest in connection with Chemasus Construction Limited, where Evans Kipkoech Korir, a director of the firm, has also been charged.
Meanwhile, Wangamati and 11 others are accused of irregularly spending public funds through a network of companies during his tenure as Bungoma’s county boss.
The high-profile arraignment marks the latest in a series of corruption crackdowns targeting both sitting and former county chiefs.
