Fresh CCTV footage has shed light on the final hours of slain city lawyer Kyalo Mbobu, raising suspicions that his killers may have tracked his movements from his office to the scene of his execution along Magadi Road.
The recordings show Mbobu arriving at his Town House office on Kaunda Street early Tuesday, September 9, at about 6:35 a.m. Dressed in a dark suit and red tie, the advocate is seen checking in at the building’s entrance before briefly stopping at the security desk to collect newspapers. He then made his way to his ninth-floor office.
At around 10 a.m., cameras captured him stepping out of his office and engaging in a short conversation with a woman in the corridor, before returning to his chambers. Later in the day, at 5:14 p.m., the footage shows him leaving the office, entering the elevator, and descending to the ground floor. Another man is seen exiting the same lift moments after Mbobu.
Outside the building, a figure dressed in black and carrying a backpack was spotted loitering near the entrance while making a phone call. The man abruptly ended the call as soon as Mbobu walked past him and then proceeded to follow in the lawyer’s direction.
Colleagues who saw Mbobu on the fateful day described him as being in good spirits. “During the day, he met a client, went out for a meeting at noon, and returned around 2:30 p.m. He seemed fine and continued with his work as usual,” one colleague recalled.
Investigators from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have since focused their attention on the man seen outside the building, who is now a key person of interest. Detectives believe he may have been part of the team that later ambushed Mbobu in a fatal drive-by shooting along Magadi Road.
The chilling footage has added new urgency to the investigation, with detectives piecing together whether the lawyer was under surveillance long before his murder.
