The National Police Service (NPS) has officially announced the start of its 2025 national recruitment drive, inviting eligible Kenyans to apply for positions as Police Constables.

In a statement released on Tuesday, Inspector General Douglas Kanja Kirocho confirmed that the recruitment will be conducted across all counties on Monday, November 17, 2025, between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

The announcement follows a recent legal tussle between the NPS and the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) over who has the constitutional mandate to carry out police recruitment. The dispute was settled when the High Court, on October 30, ruled that the recruitment mandate squarely rests with the NPS.

Earlier, the NPSC had planned to hold the exercise between October 3 and 9, but the process was temporarily halted by the Employment and Labour Relations Court on October 2, following a petition challenging the legality of the commission’s notice.

According to the NPS guidelines, applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years, possess a valid National ID card, and have attained at least a D+ in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).

Candidates are also required to be free of any criminal record, physically and mentally fit, and must meet the minimum height requirements 1.7 metres (5ft 8in) for men and 1.6 metres (5ft 3in) for women. Female applicants are further expected not to be pregnant during recruitment or throughout training.

The service has encouraged National Youth Service (NYS) graduates who meet the outlined qualifications to apply, adding that preference will be given to those with a ‘Good’ conduct rating or higher.

The NPS emphasized that the recruitment will be conducted transparently and fairly, urging interested candidates to turn up at designated recruitment centres early and ensure they carry the required documents.
