As Easter festivities draw near, coastal authorities are implementing comprehensive safety measures to ensure a secure and enjoyable holiday experience for both locals and visitors.
Coast Regional Police Commander Ali Nuno has unveiled a raft of proactive strategies aimed at enhancing public safety, minimizing travel disruptions, and reinforcing the coastal region’s image as a premier tourist destination.
Speaking in Mombasa alongside senior officials from various security agencies, Nuno emphasized the need for vigilance and structured coordination as the region anticipates a surge in holidaymakers.
“These are part of the strategies to ensure that there is seamless movement of travellers and visitors along the Kenyan coast. This is a tourist destination centre, and I therefore want to assure our people and the international community that the coastal region is safe and secure,” said Nuno.
As part of the holiday safety framework, public beaches will be closed daily at 6 p.m. throughout the Easter period. Authorities say the decision is part of a broader security approach designed not only to curb isolated gang activity but also to maintain order and peace for all beachgoers.
“We have an operational order in place, and we will be having teams which will be moving around. They will be strategically placed for enforcement,” Nuno explained, adding that both security and intelligence officers will be deployed across hotspots to anticipate and swiftly respond to any incidents.
In a move that highlights a wider concern for road safety, Nuno also announced that long-distance transport companies will be required to assign two drivers per vehicle during the holiday rush. This, he said, is aimed at reducing fatigue-related accidents and improving passenger safety during long hauls.
“These efforts are not just about enforcement they are about creating a safe and welcoming environment for everyone celebrating the holidays,” he concluded.
With the measures in place, the government is positioning the Kenyan coast as not only a vibrant hub for Easter festivities but also a model for responsible and inclusive holiday planning.
