The government has reaffirmed that construction of the Bomas International Convention Complex is progressing steadily, even as the project edges closer to its anticipated opening timeline.

The Ksh30 billion facility, whose construction began in March 2025, is designed to significantly upgrade Kenya’s ability to host major international conferences and high-level events. Earlier projections by William Ruto indicated that the project would be completed by April 2026, with operations expected to commence about a month later.

Recent images from the site show that the main structure is largely in place, signalling substantial progress. However, construction work is still ongoing across several sections of the complex, highlighting that the project has not yet reached completion.

Key components, including parts of the roof, remain unfinished, while both interior and exterior finishing works are still underway. Activity at the site remains high, with workers engaged in multiple phases of construction across different sections of the building. Heavy machinery, including cranes and cement trucks, continues to operate across the expansive site.

Beyond the main structure, additional infrastructure is still being developed. Roadworks and access routes leading to the complex are under construction, while some auxiliary buildings outlined in the project’s design have yet to be put up.

In an update issued on April 20, Raymond Omollo confirmed that the project remains active, as efforts continue to meet the targeted launch window.

Once completed, the convention complex is expected to position Kenya as a key destination for global conferences and large-scale events in the region.
