The Council of Governors (CoG) has officially dissociated itself from comments made by Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga regarding the death of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, terming them personal and inappropriate.

Speaking after an emergency meeting on Wednesday, CoG Chairperson and Wajir Governor Ahmed Abdullahi announced that the council had reached a unanimous decision to strip Kahiga of his position as Vice Chair.

“The Council of Governors has unanimously resolved to remove Governor Mutahi Kahiga from his role as Vice Chair. A special sitting will be convened soon to elect his replacement,” Abdullahi stated.

He stressed that the council does not condone Kahiga’s sentiments, clarifying that the remarks did not represent the collective view of county leaders.

“The Council completely disassociates itself from Governor Kahiga’s utterances. Those statements were made in his individual capacity and do not reflect the position of the Council of Governors,” Abdullahi emphasized.

Kahiga, whose remarks sparked nationwide outrage, has since issued a public apology, saying his comments captured in a viral vernacular video were taken out of context and were not meant to mock or celebrate Raila’s passing.
