Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has moved to dispel claims of a struggling economy, affirming that Kenya is firmly on a path of recovery and financial stability under his stewardship.

Speaking during a fundraiser at Mikuyu Primary School in Suba South on Saturday, the CS defended his tenure, stating that significant strides have been made in stabilizing the economy, reducing inflation, and ensuring timely disbursement of government funds.

“Assertions that the economy is underperforming are misleading and do not reflect the progress we have made,” Mbadi said. “These claims are politically driven and meant to overshadow the achievements we are registering.”

The CS highlighted that, for the first time, the National Treasury successfully disbursed all outstanding funds to county governments before the close of the financial year an achievement he described as a milestone in intergovernmental fiscal relations.

He also noted that the Treasury had fully cleared a Ksh13 billion arrears owed to the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) as of August 2024, when he assumed office. According to Mbadi, the funds have been released to the NG-CDF Board and are currently being distributed to constituencies across the country.

“We met all our obligations, including clearing the CDF arrears. If development is not happening in your area, the question should go to your elected leaders, not the Treasury,” he remarked.

Mbadi further cited improvements in public sector financing, pointing out that schools have received their capitation funds on time a critical step in stabilizing the education sector.

He reiterated the need for national unity and support for the government’s broad-based development agenda, stressing that continued economic progress depends on coordination across all levels of leadership.

The CS concluded by asserting that his office has outperformed previous regimes in managing the economy and ensuring accountability in public resource disbursement.
