Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare access for Kenya’s most vulnerable citizens through the Social Health Authority (SHA).
Speaking after President William Ruto unveiled a new initiative on Friday, Prof. Kindiki hailed the government’s decision to cover monthly health insurance contributions for more than 1.5 million indigent Kenyans. He described the move as a clear demonstration of the administration’s resolve to shield citizens from the burden of preventable and treatable diseases.
“The programme launched today by President Ruto, where the government will begin paying premiums for 1.5 million needy Kenyans, is not only historic but also a landmark step in ensuring equitable healthcare,” the Deputy President said.
According to Kindiki, the expansion under SHA will guarantee that vulnerable households are no longer excluded from essential health services, marking a critical stride in advancing universal health coverage in the country.
