What began as a domestic disagreement in a quiet Kakamega village ended in tragedy when a son turned on his father during a heated argument over medication meant for his ailing mother.
The incident occurred in Emanyasa village, Kakamega County, on July 20, when a 26-year-old man fatally attacked his father, 66-year-old Calisto Osundwa, following a dispute over the whereabouts of his mother’s medicine. According to police and eyewitnesses, tensions escalated after the elder Osundwa allegedly admitted to misplacing the prescribed medication. Enraged, the son reportedly picked up a panga and a wooden club, striking his father fatally on the head.
Despite desperate cries for help, no one reached the scene in time to save the victim. The injured man was later taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body has since been transferred to the mortuary for postmortem examination.
The suspect fled immediately after the attack. Police have launched a manhunt and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
Elsewhere in the country, two more murder cases are under active investigation.
In Sidindi, Ugunja sub-county in Siaya, police are investigating the death of an unidentified woman believed to be around 55 years old. Her body was discovered inside an abandoned house with visible signs of violence including deep head injuries, a swollen face, and a cloth tightly wound around her neck. Blood pooled on the floor, pointing to a brutal end. Authorities say the motive for the killing remains unclear. The body has been taken to the mortuary pending identification and an autopsy.
Meanwhile, in Ganze, Kilifi County, another man, 58-year-old Gabriel Kombe, was found murdered under mysterious circumstances. Kombe had reportedly attended a funeral on July 19 but never made it home. His lifeless body was discovered along the route he had taken, lying in a pool of blood. Police believe he was ambushed by unknown attackers. Investigations are ongoing.
The Ministry of Interior and local police commands have condemned the violence and promised to fast-track investigations into all three cases.
