Politicians fuelling public unrest have been put on notice, with Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen vowing firm action against leaders inciting communities for political gain.
Speaking during a press briefing at the Uasin Gishu County Commissioner’s office ahead of the Jukwaa La Usalama security tour in the county, the CS warned that stern legal action awaits those sowing seeds of ethnic division.
“Security agencies will be very firm with anyone making inciteful statements aimed at dividing communities,” said the CS.
He further revealed that most of the leaders inciting locals do not hail from Uasin Gishu County or the larger Rift Valley region, accusing them of attempting to paint the government in a negative light.
“Most of these individuals are political actors who are not from Uasin Gishu or the Rift Valley. They try to create rifts between communities in an effort to tarnish the image of the government,” he added.
Accompanied by Immigration and Civil Services PS Dr. Belio Kipsang, Deputy Inspector General of Police Gilbert Masengeli, Rift Valley Regional Commissioner Abdi Hassan, and other top security chiefs, the Interior CS is leading a town hall meeting with local leaders, security stakeholders, NGAO officials, and members of the public at Gulab Lochab.
The CS and his delegation are also scheduled to tour Nandi, Elgeyo Marakwet, and Baringo counties from Thursday to Saturday, and Trans Nzoia County on Monday.
