DCP Party Leader Rigathi Gachagua has openly criticized President William Ruto, accusing him of attempting to divide the Central Region through divide-and-rule tactics in a bid to cling to power.
Speaking during the burial service of Alice Wangari Gakuya, mother to Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, at Makomboki Primary School in Kagumo Constituency, Murang’a County, Gachagua has faulted the President for what he described as a Moi-style playbook aimed at dividing the region to facilitate Ruto’s political ambitions.
Earlier, Lamu County Woman Rep Muthoni Marubu faced confrontation from mourners after she expressed support for William Ruto’s two-term presidential bid.
On the matter of the opposition’s presidential candidate, Gachagua reiterated that the coalition would field a single candidate to challenge Ruto.
He has emphasized that the opposition is in the process of consolidating its forces and will identify a strong candidate at the appropriate time.
He also extended an invitation to the ODM party to join the opposition alliance, stating that there is currently no preferred candidate for the presidency and that any opposition member is eligible to fly the flag.
In defense of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, Gachagua responded to accusations by some ODM leaders, asserting that the party’s internal problems are caused by Uhuru Kenyatta himself, while William Ruto is reportedly attempting to undermine the party by seeking to buy it.
During the burial, several Members of Parliament and Senators, including Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Nyandarua Senator John Methu, Laikipia Senator John Kinyua, Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, and Tetu MP Wandeto, criticized the Ruto administration for ignoring public concerns. They also cautioned that Ruto should not seek another term, citing his alleged failure to respect the rule of law.
Gachagua concluded by outlining his plans for the year, emphasizing his commitment to popularizing the DCP party in preparation for the upcoming general elections.
